Certifications

Coordinator, Start Coach, RPO Coach, and Referee — certifications for coaching, refereeing, and growing the sport.

About the Certification System

As the number of players grows, keeping standards high for coaches, referees, and outreach volunteers matters more than ever. Pickleball Japan (PJ) offers two categories of certification: an “outreach certification” for people running clinics and events, and “coaching and refereeing certifications” for people teaching technique or officiating. Each teaches the knowledge, skills, and code of conduct that role requires.

What’s the Difference?

Outreach Certification (Coordinator)

For growing the sport in your community. This certification doesn’t cover coaching technique, but teaches you to run clinics, introduce newcomers to the game, and share pickleball’s history.

Coaching & Refereeing (Start Coach, RPO Coach, Referee)

Progressive certifications for coaches and referees. These let you provide ongoing coaching at a club or officiate at official tournaments.
