Thank you as always for your support of Pickleball Japan’s activities.
We are pleased to publish the tournament guidelines for “Vietnam Airlines Edogawa Open 2026 supported by MIZUNO,” a PJ-sanctioned tournament to be held in Edogawa, Tokyo. If you are considering participating, please be sure to review the information below.

[Update of July 22, 2026]
We have changed the match format (preliminaries: one game to 11 points, win by 2 / main draw: one game to 15 points, win by 2). We have also added the timeout rules, paddle check details, and how to submit the parental consent form.

*If a category has fewer than 4 entries, it may be merged with another category.
*You may enter both Mixed Doubles and Men’s/Women’s Doubles. However, you may not enter two events held on the same day.
*”+” means “aged … and over.” There is no upper limit; for example, a 55-year-old player may also enter 35+ (age is as of the first day of the tournament).

*Afternoon start times may shift depending on the number of entries and match progress. We will contact you after the entry deadline, so please be sure to check.

Match Format

Preliminaries: Round robin (one game to 11 points, win by 2)
Main Draw: The top two players/pairs from each group advance to the playoff bracket (one game to 15 points, win by 2)

*Games continue until one side leads by 2 points.
*Ends are switched when either side reaches 6 points in the preliminaries (11-point games) or 8 points in the main draw (15-point games).
*The match format may change depending on the number of participants in each event.

Timeouts

Each player is allowed one 1-minute timeout per game.
Medical timeouts are limited to 15 minutes per player per game; if recovery is not expected, the player will be considered to have retired.
If the injury or illness is judged not to be legitimate, a regular timeout will be charged and a technical warning will be issued (or a technical foul if no timeouts remain).
If there is bleeding, play may not resume until the bleeding has stopped and the court has been cleaned.

Ball, Paddles & Officiating

[Officiating] Self-officiated (referees are scheduled to be assigned for the final of each category only)
[Rules] This tournament adopts the “PJ Recommended Etiquette and Rules” (based on the USA Pickleball rules).

*A paddle check will be conducted, but it will only verify the presence of the approval mark and that the paddle is free of excessive damage or illegal modification.
*Before each match, please check each other’s “checked” stickers attached to the end of the paddle with your opponent.
*If use of a non-approved paddle is discovered during a match, the match will be forfeited.
*Please make sure in advance that your paddle is approved.
*Depending on the situation, an umpire may be assigned at the referee’s discretion.

Eligibility & Requirements

Players must have completed Pickleball Japan player registration at the time of entry.
Age limits for each event are based on age as of the first day of the tournament.
Open categories are open to everyone.
For categories with DUPR requirements, the DUPR rating at the time of entry will be used (subsequent changes will not be reflected).
Minors of high school age or younger require a parental consent form.

*Please download the consent form from the guidelines page on the PJ official website and submit it at check-in on the day of the tournament.
*If you cannot submit it on the day, you will not be permitted to compete.

Entry Fees

Doubles (all events): ¥16,000 per pair
Singles (all events): ¥9,000 per person

*A separate system fee applies.
*Players whose team is registered as an organization with the former JPA receive a discount of ¥500 per person (¥1,000 per doubles pair). Individual registrants are not eligible. The discount is applied based on registration status at the time of entry.
*Entry fees have been revised due to the indoor venue and rising operating costs, including air conditioning. We appreciate your understanding.

How to Enter & Entry Period

[Selection] First-come, first-served (the capacity of each event may be increased or decreased after reviewing the number of entries and match format)

Cancellations & Partner Changes

[Waitlist (ALT)] Three waitlist slots will be set in addition to the capacity of each category. If a cancellation occurs, waitlisted players will move up in order of application. If no slot becomes available by the cancellation deadline, your entry will be automatically canceled and refunded.
[Partner Changes] Doubles partners may be changed only once. Please contact the office before the entry deadline.
[Cancellation Policy] The cancellation deadline is the same as the entry deadline. Even if you withdraw within this period, the system usage fee will still apply and cannot be refunded. After the deadline, 100% of the entry fee will be charged and no refunds will be given.

Awards, PJ Points & Draw

[Awards] Champion, runner-up, and third place in each category (award recipients and prizes may change depending on the number of participants)
[PJ Points] Awarded in the 19+ / 35+ / 50+ Open categories of Men’s & Women’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
[Draw Announcement] The draw will be announced at the venue on the day, or on Tournated by the day before.

[Parking] Paid parking is available, but spaces are limited. Please use public transportation or carpool whenever possible.

Notes

Players of high school age or younger may enter with parental consent.
If a category has fewer than 4 entries, its preliminaries may be merged with another age category (final rankings will still be determined within the original age category).
Only first aid will be provided for injuries or accidents during play. The venue and organizer accept no responsibility for accidents, theft, or similar incidents. The event is covered by recreation insurance, but no doctors or trainers will be on site. Liability for damages rests with the party at fault.
Rights to photos, videos, and other media taken during the tournament belong to the organizer. If you wish to film or publish your own matches, please be sure to obtain your opponent’s permission.
Players wearing clothing similar in color to the match ball may be asked by tournament headquarters to change. Please follow the instructions of tournament officials and referees throughout the event.
Depending on the number of participants, parts of these guidelines, such as capacity, match format, and award categories, may be changed. All players will be treated fairly.
