Court Dimensions
The court is symmetrical on either side of the net. It’s made up of the “kitchen” (non-volley zone) next to the net, and the “service area” beyond it. The name of each line is shown in the diagram below.
*All lines surrounding the non-volley zone are considered part of the non-volley zone (“kitchen”).

About the metric measurements
The meter (m) figures in this diagram are converted from the official rules’ foot (ft) measurements, rounded to two decimal places. As a result, the sum of the individual areas may differ slightly from the total court length.
Net Height
The net is slightly lower in the middle than at the sides — a detail you won’t find on a tennis or badminton net, unique to pickleball.
91cm at the sides, about 86cm at the center
Ball and Paddle Specifications
The ball used in pickleball follows detailed official specifications. Ball speed and flight change depending on the number and size of the surface holes, so different balls are made for indoor and outdoor play.

Paddles are made from wood, composite materials, and other materials. In size, they sit between a table tennis paddle and a tennis racquet — a bit bigger than the former, a bit smaller than the latter.
Comparing Courts With Other Sports
A pickleball court is only about a third the size of a tennis court — in fact, it’s nearly the same size as a badminton doubles court. That means an existing tennis or badminton court can easily be converted just by re-marking the lines.
Tennis (doubles)10.97 × 23.77m
Badminton (doubles)6.1 × 13.41m
Pickleball6.1 × 13.41m
Court Features
- Court size is the same for singles and doubles
- Existing tennis courts can be converted, fitting multiple pickleball courts by adding dedicated lines
- Also easy to convert from an indoor gymnasium or badminton court
- The compact court means less running, making it approachable for beginners and less active players
